Blackmagic URSA 4.6K Key Features
Blackmagic Ursa 4.6K
By Daisaku Gamero
Here at Canuck Camera, we are very excited about Blackmagic Design’s exciting new product lineup for their range of cinema cameras. When they announced the Ursa at NAB 2014, they promised the cameras would be user upgradeable. Users would no longer need to buy a new camera when the latest version is released, they can simply purchase a new sensor and upgrade the camera themselves. Now they have delivered on that promise with a new sensor offering 4.6K at 120 fps (up from 4k at fps 60 fps) and 15 stops of dynamic range (up from 12 stops). However, with the recently announced 2.3 camera update for the Ursa, it adds windowed recording which can now allow it to shoot 150 fps at 1080p. The new 4.6k sensor significantly expands the capabilities of the already impressive Ursa for customers to shoot beautifully cinematic slow motion shots at 4.6k and with greater latitude to retain detail in the shadows and highlights. We can’t wait to get our hands on this awesome new camera and offer it to our wonderful clients.

Blackmagic Ursa Mini Key features:
Blackmagic Ursa Mini
The Blackmagic Ursa Mini is priced more affordably than the Ursa and is targeted at small or independent production crews. It comes with the new 4.6k sensor which is not user upgradeable like its big brother and can shoot at 60 fps at 4.6k and an impressive 180 fps at 1080p. The most noteworthy feature is its small size compared to the Ursa. This camera is designed to be lightweight which makes it ideal for run-and-gun productions utilizing handheld. Users can attach a remote controller with a hand grip to facilitate this filmmaking approach. Blackmagic also offers a top handle and shoulder kit for the Mini and a new Viewfinder which can be used for the Ursa and Ursa Mini. We get a lot of requests for gear used on independent productions and we look forward to offering this incredible new camera to our customers.
